and features to wipe away the sounds of the big city along with dozens
of original sculptures and ideas for your garden and home.
Danny and Julie
Meeks are award winning artists. Danny has a "shoe box" full of ribbons
from his woodcarving days, and both he and Julie are internationally recognized
as sculptors. Their carving technique is so similar that the only
way to tell their pieces apart is to know their individual tastes.
We are within a short walking
distance from all the attractions of Kemah;
shops, restaurants, bay access, marina, galleries, rides and amusements.
Lava rock is a unique sculpting
medium. The 12-14 million year old rock will probably last at least
another million years after carving. Virtually impervious to erosion,
the sculptures will be around long after wood rots and metal rusts away.
Your Grandchildren will probably enjoy your waterfall or sculpture and
pass it on to future generations.
We would like to
say that the sculptures carve themselves. That is because each sculpture
is inspired by the rock itself. The particular shape, texture, and
color of a rock dictates what the rock will become. Much like looking
at a cloud in the sky and seeing an earthly image, we look at and into
the rock to see a shape, or an "inside" that needs to be let out.
The self-contained
waterfalls are sculpted in much the same way. The shape and textures
dictate where the top flow and bottom pools will be. The rest is
seeing how many unique flows, falls, ponds, and pools can be carved to
maximize the features and "art" of the individual rock.
At our Bed N Breakfast
the "N" stands for no. That's right, Bed No Breakfast. In Kemah
we have the finest restaurants in Texas, all with a wonderful waterfront
view. We cannot compete with the local fare. We do provide
enjoyable transportation to get you to brunch, lunch, or an elegant dinner
cruise. Coffee maker, coffee, and fresh pastries are provided along
with a well equipped kitchen for your convenience.
Guests of the B &
B are offered a special vacation/rock carving experience. Classes
are for B & B guests only and are completely personalized to your carving
desires. Absolutely no experience is required. You will be
guided through easy steps to a wonderful sculpture or waterfall of your
own creation. What would take months to carve in wood can be sculpted
in ancient rock in sessions of one or two days.
Tools are supplied
and rock is available at 25 cents per pound. Sculptures range from
10-200 lbs. and waterfalls from 60-300 lbs.. Pumps are available from $35-$50.
On the average, your out of pocket expenses for the B & B, lessons,
and materials will be less than the retail value of your creation.
