Kemah, on Galveston Bay,
takes its name for a word meaning “facing the wind.” It is said to be a Karankawa
word. The Karankawa were the indigenous Native American tribe that
inhabited the area. The city's slogan “Breeze into Kemah” was inspired
by the constant Gulf breeze greeting visitors to Kemah. A trip to
Kemah's Lighthouse District, offers a unique shopping and entertainment
experience. Fine art, clothing, Jewelry, Turquoise from one shop

to the restaurant filled Kemah Boardwalk. Stroll along the winding
boardwalk on Galveston
Bay
and Clear Creek. Put yourself in sensory overload, boat watching. See
little dinghies, grandiose yachts and working shrimp boats. All these
lovely creations are on parade each and every day in Kemah.
In addition to the
plentiful shops restaurants and fine hotel, the Kemah Boardwalk
offers a Ferris wheel, The C.P. Huntington trains, Pharaoh's Fury,
Joe's Boardwalk Beast fast and wet boat ride, Rock climbing, Crazy
Submarine, Dancing Fountain, Boardwalk Tower, Inverter, Aviator,

interactive Sting Ray Reef, live music on The Plaza every weekend. Rock
