Hello! Meet Marci and Larry Reid, co-owners of Marci’s Egypt and More Décor located in Kemah, Texas.
Marci and Larry made their
first trip to Egypt over 10 years ago. Egypt was everything they thought
it would be and more. Egypt was and continues to be an experience of a
lifetime that for Marci and Larry has turned into a way of life.
On a personal level, Egypt rekindled for Marci memories of her childhood in Chicago. Her favorite activity when she was growing up was visiting the Field museum where she spent all her time in the Egypt section. Marci did not know it at the time but she was developing a love for Egypt that would later develop into a key part of her life. Chicago, like Marci, has a strong connection with Egypt through the University of Chicago, Oriental Institute. For Larry, the trip helped him relive the experience of seeing the King Tut exhibit in that same museum in the mid 70’s when he was on a business trip to Chicago. Marci and Larry did not know each other at that time but clearly some seeds were planted back then that came into full bloom through their union and this first trip to Egypt. Needless to say neither Marci nor Larry have been the same since, one cannot be the same after Egypt. |

During this first trip, Marci saw something that
really captured her attention. She seemed almost preoccupied with the beautiful
papyrus reproductions of famous scenes from ancient Egypt that were being
sold in the various shops around Cairo.
Marci bought several hundred of these works of art. Larry thought she would bring them home, have a few of the framed and hung on their walls and then just give the remainder away to members of her family and friends. Boy was he wrong! With in a few weeks after arriving home, Marci rented a small retail space at a place called Traders Village in Houston just to see if this art would sell. It was slow at first but overtime things picked up a little. What did click early on was Marci’s love of this business and the opportunity to learn and share with others the wonderful stories told through these beautiful works of art. It must have been love for Marci, a lady from Chicago, to spend four summers at Traders Village, an open-air market, in Houston’s heat and humidity. | ![]() Marci and Larry inside Sabat’s papyrus shop with Khedr, one of Cairo’s best artists |
